Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions (with answers) that you may have for us.

1. Do you allow visitors?

***Absolutely! Contact us and we will work out a time for you to come meet us and our dogs. (we do not allow visits to the puppies until they are at least 5 weeks old).

2. How often do you breed your females?

***We breed our females about once a year.

3. What is OFA?

***OFA stands for Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, check out our links page for a link to their website to learn more about them and their ratings.

4. Could I call your vet and ask some questions about you and your dogs?

***Yep just ask us and we will supply you with his name and phone number.

5. Could we call or email some of your previous buyers?

***Yes just ask us for some names and email addresses and we will get them to you.

6. Where do you live?

***We live on my Grandparents farm, it is about 500 acres with a pond which the dogs LOVE, I am the fifth generation in my family to live here.

7. What animals do you have?

***We have our Golden's, 3 rescued cats named Cam, Newton and McCaffery and about 250 cows.

8. Can you guarantee if I buy a dog from you that he or she will never have any health issues?

***I can guarantee you that when you buy a dog from us that to the best of my knowledge the puppy is healthy and normal. We do testing on the parents to try to make sure there will not be any health problems. All of our dogs are in great health however dogs and animals are like humans the parents can be healthy and perfect and have 5 kids and one may end up with arthritis, or one may get cancer and the other 3 go through life with little to no health problems. Buying a puppy is a lot like buying a new car, the cars can be made in the same factory by the same people and 500 cars be perfect and 2 have engine problems. With that being said  I cannot guarantee that a dog from us will never have any health problems, and neither can anyone else other than God, but we do all we can to bred healthy happy babies.

9. Are you a puppy mill?

***NO! We are in no way a puppy mill. We breed for the betterment of the breed and love each and every one of our dogs. We have no children so our dogs are our children

10. What else do you do other than breed Golden's?

** I am a Real Estate Broker and I also work here on the farm. My husband is a carpenter and can make just about anything out of wood.

11. Where are you when the dogs are in labor?

***I am with the mama before labor, during labor and after labor.

12. Do you sale full AKC?

***No we only sell limited AKC

13. Why don't you sale Full AKC (breeding rights)?

***We no longer sale with breeding rights because once we release full breeding rights the new owner could breed with a dog that has not had any health testing, with a dog that would not promote the betterment of the breed which could lead to health problems with that litter and our name could suffer. If we do not release breeding rights we can do our best to keep the Sure Foundation name in good standing as healthy dogs.

14. What kind of dog food do you feed?

***We feed Bil Jac dog food, our vet recomended it to us after the food we use to feed had a recall. We have been using Bil Jac for a few years and have had good results with it. There are so many dog foods on the market and I always say you find the dog food that you think will be best for you and your dog, if it is Bil Jac that's awesome if it is not that is totally up to the new owner.

15. I don't want my puppy to fly will you meet me half way or bring him/her to me?

***I have met  people halfway or took the puppy to them. What I normally do is charge based on the miles round trip and price per gallon of gas at that time, and if need be the avg price of a hotel in the area.

16. Do I get to see pictures of the puppies?

***We post pictures of the puppies to our Facebook page under Sure Foundation Kennels, we usually take pictures of the puppies once a week.

17. Where in NC are you located?

***Take a map of NC and point to the middle and you will more than likely hit us on the map haha, we are central North Carolina located in Liberty (Randolph County). About 20 miles south of Greensboro, NC.

18. What are the dogs you sell used for?

***Most of our dogs go to "pet" families but we do have some dogs used in hunting as well as therapy dogs.

19. How do we pick our puppy?

***We go by deposit so first deposit has first pick second deposit has second and so on. First pick has until the puppy is 5 weeks old to pick their puppy. Once first pick picks their pup second pick will pick and so on.

20. How many deposits do you take before the pups are born?

***We only take deposits once the puppies have arrived, we only do wait lists.

21. How would you describe Sure Foundation Kennels?

***First off we are Christians and Christ is our Sure Foundation and we try to give each puppy a Sure Foundation. I would describe my kennel as ran by animal lovers who love the breed of the Golden Retriever and want to make the breed even better, who takes each puppy that is born and loves them like they are their own, who cries like a baby when a puppy is still born or passes a few days after birth, someone who continues to love each and every pup even after they go to their new homes.
